What Legacy Are You Leaving?

What Will Your Legacy Be by Margaret Workman

“How you do anything is how you do everything!” my Margaret-ism of the day.

Those are some of the most powerful words you will ever hear and so very true. I use them every day with my clients, vendors and my family.  We need to practice ethics and use integrity in dealing with our clients, customers and family. We are all a work in progress. If you think you know it all, I can assure you that you don’t. Continue Reading

Women In Property Preservation

Women On The Front Lines

I am on the front lines of a male dominated industry and I know there are strengths and weaknesses to being a woman in a “Man’s World!  I am not a typical modern day feminist!  In fact I do not consider myself a feminist at all, I don’t believe in Entitlement or Supremacy in any gender male or female. I love it when a man opens the door for me; I love it when a man stands up to allow me to have a seat! That kind of behavior is a welcome sight for this 43 year old woman. However it is becoming a lost cause on some of the younger generation. Scott and I have taught our 15 year old Son and our 18 year old daughter that being a lady and gentleman is the only way to be. A WOMAN IN A MAN’S WORLD By Margaret Workman
People always ask me, “How do you do it?” of course I say “Do what??” They say how do you succeed in a man’s world?                        Do these two  Linkedin photos  look like mug shots to you?
A real BONNIE AND CLYDE don’t you think?

Okay folks you will get a kick out of this one. Two weeks ago I got a call from an irate homeowner stating that we did a winterization on their property. That we did not have permission to go into their home and things were stolen and they were going to prosecute us to the fullest extent of the law. Continue Reading

Whiplash: Why Do Our Clients Have To Have So Many Different Requirements by Margaret Workman

WHIPLASH: WHY DO OUR CLIENTS HAVE TO HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT REQUIREMENTS? by
Margaret Workman

I am seriously getting whiplash from the amount of requirements and pricing differences among the clients in our industry.  We understand every company has a right to do things their way.  However we also have a right to request things be streamlined so that we are all on the same page. Some companies pay per photo, some don’t. Some companies pay a trip charge some don’t. Our Industry is like no other. Continue Reading

It Only Takes A Spark To Get A Fire Going

IT ONLY TAKES A SPARK-TO GET A FIRE GOING
SO WHY DO I FEEL LIKE I AM SUFFOCATING? by Margaret Workman
[Editor’s Note: I see a refreshing change in the landscape of Property Preservation commentary with the introduction of Margaret Workman to the audience of  CubicYard™. Depending on the year, past statistics have shown that the percentage of property preservation businesses owned by women has varied between 48% and 61%. There are many women in the industry and most stay silently busy in the background, often unrecognized and under-appreciated. CubicYard™ is happy to say that this woman, Margaret Workman, has agreed to share her knowledge and experience with us – not surprising at all that she “stepped up to the plate” as she is an avid sports enthusiast and photographer.]
Why do some get away with not following the rules while others follow the rules and are treated worse by the Companies for the very rules they are trying to follow? Continue Reading
