They work from a small red-brick building down the street from Larry’s Pawn Shoppe. The sign nailed across the door header says only “PPP.” The one parking spot in front has a sign that reads “Chief.”
This unit knows no boundaries – the members are nameless. Created under an obscure mandate, they have the awesome responsibility of investigating accusations of violations of guidelines promulgated by federal agencies such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as well as government-sponsored enterprises (GSE) such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
They have measured broken windows in Point Barrow, Alaska and investigated green anti-freeze in Ballast Key, Florida. Anywhere, anyplace, anytime. They are the Property Preservation Police.
