Pair Arrested for Burglary on South Shades Crest Road

Birmingham, AL 08/13/2014 –

Just after 1:30 yesterday afternoon deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a vacant home in the 4800 block of South Shades Crest Road. A neighbor alerted the Sheriff’s Office after seeing a pickup truck drive behind the house.

Deputies arrived to find the basement door to the house had been forced open. They could hear people talking inside.

They entered and announced their presence and told the people to come down stairs. A white female and black male came down. Deputies asked them what they were doing in the house and woman said she was looking in to buying it for her daughter. The pair was detained while deputies searched the home. No one else was found inside. There was extensive damage to the walls of the home where copper wiring had been cut and pulled through the sheetrock.

The pair were questioned by detectives and admitted to burglarizing the home to steal copper. Both were arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Theft of Property 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

24 year old Cody Alan Griffin of Bessemer remains in jail with bonds totaling $20,000. 53 year old Sandra Green Rogers of Bessemer remains in jail with bonds totaling $60,000.
