Outside sprinkler/irrigation systems need to be thoroughly drained. In cold weather areas these systems are typically designed to easily accommodate the draining of the system. Winterization of irrigation systems is best performed by a professional; usually a landscaping company but if you find you must winterize one yourself, these steps are pretty much the standard procedure followed:

turn off water supply to the system and zip-tie the shut-off in the closed position
insure your air compressor is capable of blowing out the irrigation plumbing system. Some systems are quite large. A compressor that can supply at least 150 cfm (cubic feet per minute) at a pressure of 75 pounds is sufficient for most residential properties. Continue Reading

The 2am Chuckle

Maybe I mentioned it before, but if not, and for those of you new here, we have a new grand-daughter, Sloane.  She and her mom and dad are staying with us a while until everyone is adjusted to the new voice in the middle of the night. Sloane decided to wake everyone this morning at 2am and she seemed to enjoy all the attention and company.  Finally, a little after 5am things are settling down and here I am again making some changes to the site for Google News and doing a little research for some upcoming articles. I was trying to find some information about Fannie Mae and stumbled on a website that gave me a chuckle.  The site is written by an attorney in Illinois and it covers estate planning and real estate in Illinois.  I got a chuckle out of his comments about Fannie Mae and thought you might enjoy the article.
